<image:title>CBT Explained - CBT in Bristol, CBT in North Somerset, CBT in South Wales, ADHD Therapist - What is CBT?</image:title>
<image:caption>Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-focused psychological therapy that helps you understand and change patterns of thinking and behaviour that are causing distress or holding you back. Examples of these patterns include the thoughts and behaviours which can maintain Social Anxiety, Phobias, work stress etc. The basic concept of CBT is that our thoughts, emotions and feelings, along with the way we behave, are all connected together. Any changes in our thoughts, emotions and behaviour impact our whole life, either positively or negatively.</image:caption>

<image:title>CBT Explained - CBT in Bristol, CBT in North Somerset, CBT in South Wales, ADHD Therapist - What can CBT help with?</image:title>
<image:caption>CBT helps us to look objectively at the way we think and behave and supports us to change any negative thinking or behavioural patterns, where appropriate. Many people find these changes bring them a new experience of emotional freedom from the problems that have been bothering them. CBT is recommended by the NHS for a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including: Anxiety Panic Attacks Depression Low Self-Esteem Health Anxiety PTSD and Trauma Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Stress Sleep problems (insomnia) In the UK, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends CBT as an effective form of therapy for use within the NHS and by therapists trained in its safe delivery. Find out more by clicking the link, which will direct you to a NICE guidance page illustrating treatment pathways for common mental health conditions. I am highly experienced at adapting CBT to make it fully accessible for those with ADHD or autism.</image:caption>

<image:title>CBT Explained - CBT in Bristol, CBT in North Somerset, CBT in South Wales, ADHD Therapist - How does CBT work? CBT focuses on the link between our thoughts, feelings, and actions. In therapy, we work together to: Identify unhelpful thought patterns Understand how these thoughts affect feelings and influence behaviour Develop new, more balanced ways of thinking Learn practical coping skills to manage our symptoms Does CBT work for everyone?</image:title>
<image:caption>The honest answer is no! We are all individuals and what works well for some, does not work for everyone. Whilst the principles of CBT can be applied to many issues, it is unrealistic to expect one therapeutic approach to feel comfortable for all. Whilst specialising in CBT, my initial counselling training was in Person-Centred Counselling. I am able to draw on these different counselling approaches, to provide the right therapeutic approach for each individual, rather than assuming that one specific form of therapy will work for everyone. Contact me if you would like to discuss this in more detail.</image:caption>

<image:title>CBT Explained - CBT in Bristol, CBT in North Somerset, CBT in South Wales, ADHD Therapist - My Approach to CBT</image:title>
<image:caption>I offer CBT in a collaborative and supportive way, with sessions always adapted to your pace and goals. I draw on my significant experience of working with many types of people, gained through my time in the NHS, armed forces, schools and the police to try and give you the best possible experience of Cognitive Behavioural therapy. For some people, a short series of sessions that are focussed on a specific problem will be most helpful. Others, may prefer to engage in a deeper level of work, which will require a longer period of therapy. These decisions will always be yours to make and I will only ever recommend therapeutic options to you that I would suggest to a close member of my own family if they were in similar circumstances. Flexible & Accessible: - CBT in Bristol - CBT Online I offer a flexible booking process, allowing you to schedule appointments around your availability and individual circumstances. <image:caption>Many people find CBT extremely helpful and notice a long term positive change in their lives after therapy ends. As a university trained Cognitive Behavioural Therapist I am able to work with you, helping you to overcome many of the common psychological difficulties associated with: ADHD (CBT can be modified, if needed, to make it more accessible) Anxiety Autism (CBT can easily be adapted if required) Depression Health Anxiety Insomnia Loss and Bereavement Low Self-Esteem Phobias Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Social Anxiety (Fear of social situations) Trauma and Abuse Workplace Issues and Stress I am experienced at supporting members of the Armed Forces and Armed Forces Veterans. I am used to adapting CBT interventions to help make them more accessible for neurodivergent individuals, e.g. people with ADHD and/or Autism etc. I have completed a significant level of extra training as an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider. I have completed specialist training in pregnancy and infant loss. I regularly help individuals with Spirituality or Faith Concerns or those who have been affected by Spiritual Abuse. “Simon has a warm and non-judgmental approach to CBT and always demonstrates patience and compassion throughout the journey. I have been amazed by how far I have come with his support.” CD “CBT completely changed my relationship with the fear of vomit [Emetophobia]. I guess the whole thing was a bit like rewiring my brain, and I really didn’t expect it to work! But it did. We did a range of activities, none of which I expected to enjoy – but Simon helped me understand it as a process. Simon was kind and thoughtful, he found ways to relate to me and I never felt judged.” OD</image:caption>

<image:caption>Whether in a new or established relationship, at a point of life transition or needing help after an unexpected difficulty, investing in your most significant relationship through couples counselling can bring increased understanding, clarity of thought and positive changes for the future. I support individuals and couples through: Marriage Preparation Relationship Difficulties Renewing Commitment Parenting (including training in Conscious Parenting skills) Bereavement and Grief Post-Suicide Loss I completed my training as a Relationship and Couples Therapist with Relate, the UK’s largest provider of couples therapy. I am used to supporting neurodiverse couples, e.g. where one or both partners is diagnosed with ADHD or autism. I have completed specialist Accredited Practitioner training in ‘Pregnancy and Infant Loss’ and ‘Subsequent Pregnancies after Loss’ with the Foundation for Infant Loss. “Simon has helped me to delve into my past, enabling me to understand current behaviours, habits, feelings, insecurities and to develop processes to soothe, resolve or live with these in the present day. This has resulted in me learning to understand and communicate with my wife, both to meet my needs but also appreciate her perspective and what she may be feeling.” SI “I am much more confident in my ability as a parent and I’m enjoying spending time - much more than previously - with my child; my relationship with my husband has improved - both as a result of the depression and anxiety going but also because therapy has helped me explore where the issues with these relationships really lay and helped me find ways to manage difficulties.” LI</image:caption>

<image:title>Services - ADHD Therapist Bristol, Couples Counselling Bristol, CBT Therapist Bristol, CBT for ADHD - Outdoor ‘Walk and Talk’ Therapy in Bristol and North Somerset</image:title>
<image:caption>I am trained to deliver Outdoor ‘Walk and Talk’ Counselling which, as well as being a good form of exercise, can be a very positive experience for those who enjoy being outside in nature, or who find the physical environment of a counselling room too restrictive. Some people with a diagnosis of ADHD find the movement and activity of walking, whilst talking through their concerns, very helpful. Counselling initially begins indoors, allowing a full assessment to be made and a plan developed for future outdoor counselling sessions. Outdoor counselling can take place in woodland, lakeside, or coastal locations, with accessible routes that cater for most levels of fitness. Outdoor counselling can be a very positive environment for working through many issues but it may not be suitable for everyone. This will be discussed during the assessment process. “Simon offers a caring and positive approach to counselling. His ability to listen, understand the heart of what I said and then carefully re-articulate my words was really appreciated. His forward-thinking manner offered hope and helpful practical steps forward.” BT</image:caption>

<image:title>Services - ADHD Therapist Bristol, Couples Counselling Bristol, CBT Therapist Bristol, CBT for ADHD - Coaching for Adults, Parents and Young People</image:title>
<image:caption>I am trained and insured to deliver ADHD Coaching, Stress Management Coaching, Health and Wellbeing Coaching and Conscious Parenting Coaching. Coaching can help individuals and small groups to work through particular issues that are being faced, e.g. to understand why we react to particular events or certain people in the way that we do. Successful coaching helps the person being coached to increase self-understanding and develop the specific interventions which lead to a greater motivation to change. I can provide parenting support and coaching, teaching Conscious Parenting strategies, which are particularly effective for parenting teenagers and children with ADHD and/or autism or who experience difficulty regulating their emotions. With over 8 years of experience of school pastoral management and classroom teaching, I can coach children and young people to help them develop the skills, practical tools and emotional resilience to manage stress and look after their physical health and mental wellbeing. These skills are vital for enabling young people to thrive in a social and educational system that often puts significant pressure upon them. I am also able to support adults who wish to work on particular areas around their health, e.g. developing their personal fitness, modifying unhealthy habits and establishing patterns that promote physical and mental health in the short, medium and long term. Coaching is different to counselling but still remains firmly centred on the warm, friendly and empathetic coaching relationship that I seek to build with those I support. To discuss whether coaching could potentially help you or a young person in your care, please get in touch. “I used Simon for ADHD Strategy coaching, and it was a great experience. His approach is very flexible, and when I needed it the sessions were more like therapy. I learnt a lot about tools I could use to develop my positive core beliefs and stop being critical of myself, as this wasn't working in my best interests. Simon is very empathic and good at listening and understanding.” JC “Simon has been extremely helpful and professional, helping me to feel at ease, encouraging me to open up about my fears and anxiety and enabling me to face my anxiety and explore my thoughts around panic. He was recommended to me by a colleague and exceeded all my expectations.” LT</image:caption>

<image:title>Services - ADHD Therapist Bristol, Couples Counselling Bristol, CBT Therapist Bristol, CBT for ADHD - Online Therapy : Email & Web chat</image:title>
<image:caption>A Diploma in Online Counselling, accredited by the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO), enables me to provide high quality online therapy, as well as in-person, face-to-face counselling. Online therapy takes place using a variety of secure communication mediums. These include Video (Webcam), Internet Phone, Email and Instant Messaging (Web chat) platforms. Online counselling can benefit people with limited time, as it removes the need for travelling to appointments. It can also assist those who are anxious about leaving the house to receive therapy. Individuals with a physical condition that makes travelling to appointments a challenge, are able to access counselling from the comfort of their home. Those who prefer communicating through writing, or who wish to retain a greater degree of anonymity, often find counselling via Email or Instant Messaging particularly helpful. Online therapy is suitable for treating a broad range of problems. All referrals and applications for online counselling are carefully assessed before therapy begins. If online counselling is not appropriate, alternative forms of therapy will be discussed with you. For more information, please get in touch, via Phone, Email or the website Contact page. “I didnt know what to expect as I hadn’t really had counselling / coaching before but Simon took the time to listen to me and made me feel really relaxed. The space we were talking in was a safe space where I could be open and honest. During our 4 sessions together, Simon provided me with lots of new and different ways of thinking about dealing with situations that I may find myself in. I really enjoyed our sessions and can’t thank Simon enough.” GS</image:caption>

<image:caption>As a Mental Health First Aid Instructor, I provide high quality training to groups and organisations, delivering First Aid for Mental Health (adult focussed) and Youth Mental Health First Aid (focussed on young people aged 8-18). He was excellent in creating a positive environment and the delivery of the course content - both pace and detail - with plenty of time to ask questions, seek clarification, allowing the group to have breakout discussions around subject matter - and well judged tea breaks to allow us to decompress and process. Clearly and vastly experienced in this area of work.” EB</image:caption>

<image:title>Services - ADHD Therapist Bristol, Couples Counselling Bristol, CBT Therapist Bristol, CBT for ADHD - Support and Training for Organisations and Groups</image:title>
<image:caption>Staff Training and CPD: Investing in staff, through the provision of high quality training and continuing professional development (CPD), helps to develop the skill of employees and improves the retention of key staff within the organisation. I regularly provide training on mental health related topics to companies, schools, higher education establishments and the armed forces. Topics include stress management, supporting and safely managing employees who are self-harming or experiencing suicidal thoughts and mental health awareness courses. Courses are designed to fit the specific needs of each company. Suicide Prevention and Postvention Advisor: Providing support and advice to organisations in the preparation or updating of best practice Suicide Prevention and Suicide Postvention Policies. I also provide an expert on-site or online advisory service to HR Managers and their teams, as well as on-site workplace support in the tragic event of an employee death. Pilot Support Programmes and Aviation Safety: Since 2022, all UK registered air operating companies have been required to provide their flight crews with access to an appropriately qualified support service. I offer a low cost Pilot Support Programme which can be accessed by aviation professionals from anywhere in the world - over the phone, online or face to face, if and when confidential support is required. In response to lessons learnt from the 2015 Germanwings Flight 9525 incident, the CAA released the following rationale for implementing a high quality support programme: Life events and psychological stressors can affect anyone and pilots are not immune from mental ill-health that affects a significant proportion of the general population. It is essential that pilots have an easily accessible route for seeking assistance when under pressure or when symptoms of ill-health first present so that they can be supported or referred for treatment without fear of reprisal. A known and trusted pilot support system will maximise the opportunity for the pilot to complete a fulfilling career without mishap or a prolonged period away from flying and for the operator to maintain a safe operation. (CAA IN-2017/005) I am a member of the Flight Safety Foundation - an international organisation dedicated to influencing and leading global aviation safety. I have many years of professional aviation experience and supporting the pastoral and emotional care of aircrew and ground support teams. I currently provide Pilot Support Programmes to multiple UK air operating companies. If you are considering options for your organisation, please contact me. Mental Health Training: I have many years experience of delivering interactive and accessible mental health training to organisations and teams. Trainees have consistently given positive feedback about their training experiencing, with a number getting in touch to share how, as a result of feeling more confident about initiating conversations about mental health and wellbeing, they have subsequently used the strategies taught on the course in their workplaces. For more information or to discuss bespoke training opportunities or support programmes for your company or workplace, please get in touch.</image:caption>
