How a Bristol CBT Practice is Helping Children in India Receive Counselling

Partnership with Railway Children

Avon CBT & Psychotherapy is proud and grateful to partner with Railway Children, a UK-regulated charity working to protect vulnerable children on the streets who are at immediate risk of harm.

As a self-employed CBT therapist and couples counsellor, I try to evaluate every business decision against my core values of Compassion and Integrity. Running my own business and using it to help a charity compassionately care for children in India - a country I have visited and loved - is something I never imagined I would be in a position to do.

Now, my Bristol-based counselling practice is helping (even if only in a small way) children and their families in India find safety, care, and counselling. From June 2026, a percentage of Avon CBT’s profit will be paid to Railway Children each month. When clients book counselling appointments, they are also invited to support Railway Children’s work, if they would like to.

Immediate Crisis Response at Major Railway Stations

Railway Children works across India to identify, protect, and support children who are at risk on the streets and within railway environments. In partnership with Indian Railways, government agencies, and local organisations, the charity operates 24-hour Child Help Desks at major railway stations, reaching children the moment they arrive alone or in danger.

Trained outreach teams provide immediate care, including:

  • Nutritional food and clean water

  • Emergency medical support

  • Immediate safeguarding and safe shelter

This early intervention is absolutely critical in preventing exploitation, trafficking, and long-term harm.

Long-Term Support, Counselling, and Systemic Change

Beyond crisis response, Railway Children focuses on longer-term support that helps children rebuild their lives safely. This includes family reintegration where possible, access to education, specialized counselling and protection services, and strengthening community systems so fewer children are forced onto the streets in the first place.

The organisation also works at a systemic level, advocating for stronger child protection policies and training frontline staff to recognise and respond to vulnerable children. Through this combination of direct support and wider influence, Railway Children helps create safer journeys and brighter futures for thousands of children across India each year.
