Every relationship faces challenges. Whether these challenges are caused by communication breakdown, emotional disconnection, conflict, an affair, betrayal or simply the pressure of everyday life or parenting - relationships can sometimes feel like they are hard work!

At Avon CBT & Psychotherapy, I offer structured, compassionate, and evidence-based couples counselling, focussed on helping partners to reconnect emotionally and physically, communicate better, and strengthen their relationship.

I work with all kinds of couples, from many different backgrounds, including those navigating general relationship difficulties, whilst being affected by ADHD, Autism, or other forms of neurodiversity alongside them. Common issues brought to my counselling practice include:

  • Preparing for Marriage or Moving in Together

  • Relationship Difficulties and Recovering from Infidelity

  • Neurodiversity in Relationships

  • Commitment Renewal

  • Parenting Support and Coaching

  • Processing Grief after Loss or Bereavement

I have Specialist Accredited Practitioner recognition through the Foundation for Infant Loss after completing their training to support couples through ’Pregnancy and Infant Loss’ and ‘Subsequent Pregnancies after Loss’.

Why Choose Couples Counselling?

Couples counselling provides a calm, supportive and non judgemental space to explore the patterns that may be causing distress in your relationship. Working together, we can aim to:

  • Improve communication and reduce misunderstandings

  • Manage and resolve recurring conflict

  • Restore emotional closeness and physical intimacy

  • Navigate the challenges of parenting and family life

  • Support recovery from affairs and breaches of trust

  • Break negative cycles that have developed and strengthen long-term connection

Whether your relationship is feeling stuck, you’re struggling to navigate differences, or you simply want to feel more connected, relationship therapy can provide couples with a new sense of clarity, practical tools, and a renewed sense of teamwork in the relationship.

Inclusive Support for All Couples - Neurodiversity Informed

Every relationship is different and I enjoy working with a wide range of couples, offering empathetic and structured relationship counselling, aimed at bringing lasting change and greater relationship satisfaction.

I bring particular expertise to my support of neurodiverse couples, especially where ADHD or Autism is a factor. These partnerships may experience additional challenges, such as:

  • Miscommunications due to differing communication styles

  • Emotional regulation struggles or sensitivity to criticism

  • Difficulties with planning, memory, or routines (Executive Functioning)

  • A feeling of “living our lives on different wavelengths”

I seek to help couples where one or both partners are neurodivergent, to experience deeper connection, whilst building resilient relationships together. To maintain the unique creativity and personality of each partner and relationship, my couples counselling approach is respectful, informed and will offer you structured relationship tools and interventions to use, adapted to suit your specific needs.

Client Testimonial

“Simon has helped me to delve into my past, enabling me to understand current behaviours, habits, feelings, insecurities and to develop processes to soothe, resolve or live with these in the present day. This has resulted in me learning to understand and communicate with my wife, both to meet my needs but also appreciate her perspective and what she may be feeling.”
SI - Former Client

Client Testimonial

“I am much more confident in my ability as a parent and I’m enjoying spending time - much more than previously - with my child; my relationship with my husband has improved - both as a result of the depression and anxiety going but
also because therapy has helped me explore where the issues with these relationships really lay and helped
me find ways to manage difficulties.”
